Paul started training in 1976 under Paul Perry, trained under Kanazawa, Enoeda, Asano and many other visiting instructors. He also won silver and bronze medals in the 2007 European Championships (in Sicily) for Team Kumite and Team Kata respectfully and recently competed in the 2009 World Championships held in Athens.

Paul also trains in Codsall under Paul Wainright (5th Dan).
