The Wrekin Shotokan Karate Club, named after a prominent local landmark, a hill called the Wrekin is affiliated to the Shotokan Karate Kanazawa-Ryu International Federation (S.K.K.I.F.), which is itself a representative association of the Shotokan Karate-Do International Federation based in Tokyo (S.K.I.F.). SKIF is the world’s largest Shotokan Karate organisation, with more than 3 million members in over 120 countries and is increasing yearly.

The club is run by Sensei Tony Atherden (awarded 5th Dan 2006) and celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2009 having been formed by Tony in 1994. In 2009 Sensei Atherden himself also celebrated 45 years of Karate, his 60th Birthday and being honoured with the title Renshi as awarded by kancho Hirokazu Kanazawa personally.

The club has a good membership record with a regular core of about 25-30 individuals training at the main site at Wrekin College. New starters and experienced students moving into the area are made welcome.
