The Wrekin Shotokan Karate Club, named after a prominent
local landmark, a hill called the Wrekin is affiliated to the Shotokan
Karate Kanazawa-Ryu International Federation (S.K.K.I.F.),
which is itself a representative association of the Shotokan Karate-Do
International Federation based in Tokyo (S.K.I.F.).
SKIF is the worlds largest Shotokan Karate organisation, with
more than 3 million members in over 120 countries and is increasing
yearly.
The club is run by Sensei Tony
Atherden (awarded 5th Dan 2006) and
celebrates its 15th anniversary this year having been formed by Tony
in 1994. This year Sensei Atherden himself also celebrates 45 years of Karate, his 60th Birthday and being honoured with the title Renshi as awarded by kancho Hirokazu Kanazawa personally.
The club has a good membership record with
a regular core of about 25-30 individuals training at the main site
at Wrekin College. New starters and experienced students moving into
the area are made welcome. |
